Our Matriarch Celebrates 100 Years
We celebrated the extraordinary birthday event in February 2015 with the vivacious "matriarch" of Unity Bonita, Ms. Maxine Barrat Carter. Rev. Phil presented Maxine with a spray of roses, Jerry and Sasé entertained with delightful music and a sumptious buffet was enjoyed on the lanai following the Sunday Service.
From Chocolate Bars to Caviar
The banner refers to a time in Maxine's life when, as an ambitious young dancer partnered with Don Loper, she became an overnight sensation headlining at the famous nightclub, the Copacabana. From there, Maxine danced in Hollywood productions and was a close friend to many stars of the old days, including Ginger Rogers, Clark Gable and Florence Henderson. In mid-life Maxine worked in the early days of television, hosting a morning show for women based in Miami. Maxine's colorful life story is detailed in the biography Dancing With a Star and in the documentary From Chocolate Bars to Caviar: The Maxine Barrat Story.
Maxine at Unity Bonita
Maxine has been a Unity student for many years. She has supported the growth and development of Unity Bonita since the earliest days. Maxine also provides us with a unique inspirational reading each Sunday during service.
